Adult Colouring?

Hi

So between my new obsession with Teen Wolf and Kingston chocolate biscuits I have found myself really enjoying something that I previously thought was ridiculous. You may have guessed by the title that I'm referring to adult colouring books.

I never saw the point of them... I figured if you wanted to do some colouring why can't you just buy a normal kids colouring book and some pencils instead of something so intricate. But then at Christmas last year during a family game of secret Santa I won an adult colouring book. My mum then gave me a pack of gel pens and if I'm honest they're the absolute key to the joy of the adult colouring books. Ever since the morning after Christmas Day I was basically obsessed with my gel pens and my adult jungle colouring book.

The satisfaction of 1. Getting to own gel pens as an adult and 2. Completing something so intricate is brilliant. It's something to occupy you that also gives you a great sense of achievement. Technically I guess it's not much of an achievement but it feels like one and that's all that matters.

So if you're like me and you maybe sometimes work nights when it gets quiet or are also like me and just like feeling like you've achieved something then I strongly advise trying a colouring book and some gel pens. Watch yourself become obsessed with a colouring book.

The first picture I finished, feel the pride.

But also don't close the book too fast after you've finished a picture or else it will smudge and you'll want to cry.

Happy colouring!

On a side note, my friend and I have started a YouTube channel and if you would like to check it out and maybe even like, comment and subscribe please click here:

Exam Study Tips and Halloween Photo Diary

Hi

I haven't post anything for quite awhile and this is due to the excellent experience of Exam Time. Yes, I've been sitting at home trying to remember 6 months of study within a week. Some may read this and think that it would be easy to go over what you've already learnt within a week, that's heaps of time! and yes, it is a fair amount of time but it's also very difficult when you're sitting at home looking at books on statistics when you'd literally rather be doing... well.. anything else. Suddenly house chores become important and you're on your hands and knees scrubbing tiles which you haven't done since last exam period.

But not anymore! Because, I, the queen of procrastination (can you guess that I'm meant to be studying right now?) have some tips for you:

1. Start at least a few days before your exam and do little by little. Not only will your study time per day be shorter, but you'll remember more. Research shows that shorter bursts of study are much more effective than long, last minute cramming. Do Short bursts!

2. Give yourself something to look forward to after you've done a certain amount of study. I let myself have a bag of popcorn while watching youtube videos for the rest of the day after i re-watch two lectures. You may want to modify this, but whatever works!

3. If you start trying to read and you find yourself taking nothing in, do something else for five minutes (get the dishes out of the way) and come back to it.

4. Get enough sleep. The main thing that can bring down someones ability to learn or do well is lack of sleep. Our brains don't function properly if we're sleep deprived. Even if it's the night before the exam, you're better off studying and then stopping in time for you to get at least 7 hours sleep.

5. Cramming doesn't really work for anything but multiple choice tests. Your brain can only remember so much in a short amount of time. If you have options to jog your memory and you only have to look for an answer that feels familiar... it may help with multiple choice. but if you're doing essay or short answer exams... the earlier you start your study, the better. This also stands for multiple choice, but especially for essay or short answer.

6. Relate concepts you need to remember to something familiar. For example,  catecholamines are a neurochemical associated with appetite which triggers hunger. I remember this because it has 'cat' at the start and cats are always wanting food and hungry. Ta Da, memory triggered!

But the main thing to take from this is, start early and study a few hours at a time. Also, remember to sleep and you're good!

NOW for those who may want to avoid study all together (me too) here is a little collage of what I've been up to over the last little while:

I've spent my time making halloween cupcakes, going out to dinner, watching people learn to surf and wishing I could swim at the beach and buying MAC make-up to try out. Needless to say, the MAC make-up was the most exciting. Trying out that 'Kylie Jenner - Whirl' colour!

I hope you've been well - I really need to get a posting schedule happening!

P.S. I'm trying out Bondi Sands new Liquid Gold tan tonight. Slightly terrified mixed with excited.

P.P.S. I'm obsessed with pintrest now. If you want to find me: @katieleeft

Life Update & Some Cheeky Memes

Hi

I've been absent for a little while - Uni has gone back and everything has gotten busier than ever. Which is pretty darn' good. It's nice to have a lot going on, especially since some of it is pretty good! While there has been a few struggles with family members health and a few others things I would mostly like a place to share the good things that have been happening!

Firstly I've been seeing a lot more of my friends lately. I can be quite a solitary person at times, I like to sit in my own little bubble at home but it's been absolutely lovely to be seeing people who I definitely don't see enough and laughing until I feel physically sick. Whether this be going out for dinner, seeing movies, planning trips or even just sitting on the couch in track pants watching reality tv shows. I'd forgotten how nice it is to just make time to be around people.

More good news - my little Toby pup finally got to take the cone of shame off his head. He's now able to pick up all his toys and throw them all around my room again (yaay). His foot is slowly getting better and tomorrow him and I are heading to my parents place for a weekend visit, which will be nice. My bed at their place is the most comfortable thing in the world so there's a 85% chance I'm just going to spend the whole time there napping.

Above are some silly internet/tv things that have been popping into my head and making me laugh as I go about my day to day life lately, so I thought I'd post them here. I keep pulling the McDonalds girl pose whenever I'm mildly annoyed at something and it's starting to become a problem. I look ridiculous.

Lastly, I've met some pretty great people recently. So here is to all the good things happening right now and hoping they continue.

I hope you are well and that all good things come your way!

Adorable Fashion Jewellery

Hi!

Today I got the most adorable package in the mail. To be fair, I shouldn't have been as excited as I was because I was the one who ordered it. But that was a while ago and I had forgotten about it so opening it up today felt like christmas. (The joy of online shopping!)

This is what I got:

Now, I have never been too big on fashion jewellery. I've always had my 'real' jewellery and only really ever wore that. But recently I've been seeing people with the cutest little things that they switch around with different outfits and I think it adds something cute and exciting so I've started my own collection. The newest addition being this little owl bracelet which was about $3 on eBay. LOOK AT IT. It's perfection in bracelet form - the only problem being that I cannot do it up by myself because it's an awkward clasp. So I may got get as much wear out of this as I'd like to because I'm lonely and have no one around to help me do it up.

After desperately trying to put on the cute owl bracelet for about 5 minutes by myself and failing, I gave up and decided to dig out my other fashion jewellery that I like to wear (and that I can physically put on) and thought I would make a post about it!

This necklace is black and gold (Clearly) and will go with pretty much anything. This one and the leaf one below are the two necklaces I get the most wear out of. I like that it's not too ridiculously obnoxious and doesn't jingle when I walk (Lord knows I hate to stand out!)

Next up I have theeese gorgeous little earrings. As you can probably tell they're little bows and I think they're the cutest things I've ever seen. I'm not usually one for huge dangly earrings because I tend to get my hair stuck in them then it hurts when I try to pull it out (I'm graceful that way). So these were amazing, I don't think I'd ever use the little studs that come with them but hey, maybe if I had my ears done twice I would. Although that won't happen because having them done once was traumatic enough for me.

Lookie here we have a leaf/feather necklace (wait, which is it?!) . I love this so much. I'm not that sure why, I think it's pretty and delicate and almost whimsical. It's quite fine and a little harder to see in the photo but I can assure you it's adorable. It came in a pack of three with the two necklaces I will show below it but honestly I love it and wear it on it's own a lot.

These two here (top and bottom) came with the feather/leaf (I can't decide) necklace and while I like them I don't like them as much on their own. But when worn together (as they all descend perfectly in length order) they look really nice. I call them my 'filler necklaces'.

That is all of my teeny tiny collection (That I like - There are definitely things from when I was 15 that I would not show). As you can tell I generally go for gold jewellery, for some reason that's always been my personal favourite. But anything with animals can be pretty much guaranteed a spot in my new found collection.

If you know of any online stores that do cute jewellery, let me know!

Hope you're well!

Feeding Australian Animals!

G'day!

This post is for any animal lovers!

I have lived in Australia my entire life and this weekend was the first time I've ever actually been up-close with any of our animals. I had the absolute best day and thought I would share some up-close-and-personal photos of some of the animals at the wildlife park we visited (Cleland Wildlife Park).

 - Please note that I left my actual camera at home so all these are photos from my iPhone and alas not exactly magazine quality! -

Mum and Joey

Ducks!

Okay, so there are ducks everywhere - I know. But they are my favourite animal and they were at the park so they had to be included.

Emu

Yeah, that's right. I actually fed an Emu. I won't lie, this was the highlight of the entire day. It also started to follow me around after I fed it which was a little terrifying. Luckily I guided it towards one of my friends and let it chase them. Problem solved.

Kangaroo
These were the most chilled out Kangaroos I've ever seen. Here in Australia we're quite wary of them as they could do a loooooot of damage if they kicked or whipped you but these guys were lovely. Legit just laid there while you fed them. They come up to you, too!

Potoroo
These little guys are called Potoroos and they kind of look like a mix between a tiny possum/kangaroo/mouse type creature. There are so many of them roaming around the park and they're just gorgeous. The fact I can't have one for a pet upsets me. Imagine the cuddles.

???

I don't actually know what this adorable bird is called... I am going to attempt to find out, but until then I will be calling him Buckbeak as I did all day at the park today. He is bigger than any duck and clearly a lot smaller than an Emu. He also took quite a shine to me which I'm certainly not complaining about and I'm also pretending it was me personally and not the food I had for him.

Tasmanian Devil
I've wanted to see a Tasmanian Devil for so long and this one was gorgeous. He basically just rolled around in some sort of sleepy daze and rubbed his face in the dirt. He also didn't like to pose for pictures - rude.

Dingo

Dingos don't really have the best reputation in Australia but... let's face it they are damn adorable.

Pelican

You best believe I kept my distance from this one. I think Pelicans are great, they're very attractive (in a weird-beak way) and I like them but I don't trust them. If they peck you, you don't stand a chance. ONE GULP. Which actually isn't a legitimate logical fear, but I have it anyway.

Me Squinting and some Kangaroos

And lastly there is me trying to get a selfie with all the Kangaroos in the background - Sadly it didn't quite work out for me.
Regardless, I had an absolutely amazing day at the Cleland Wildlife Park. All the animals were lovely, I only wish we had more time so we could have seen the reptiles and birds. I also wish my phone hadn't died or that I brought my camera so I could have photographed the rest of the animals. Unfortunately I didn't get to take photos of the Wombats, Echidnas or Koalas. But I'm sure there will be another day for them! I would definitely go back.

I give today a 10/10.

Travelling Overseas! (5 Tips for Flying)

Ciao!

Early this year for the first time in my life I flew overseas! I took a five-hour flight (nice and short for a first trip– but still too long if you ask me) to Indonesia with two lovely friends of mine!

Now, I don’t have a fear of flying as such. I’m not at all bothered by the idea of the plane crashing or falling from the sky. I think what I personally dislike about flying is being stuck in one place for so long with no-where to go. I find the sensation of flying also gives me a horrid headache and makes me feel incredibly nauseous. So with a headache, nausea, and nowhere to lie down, stretch my legs or get some fresh air (without flushing myself down the toilet) I have to find a way to survive the flight.
This is how

1.    Dress Comfortably
Now, I decided to get on the plane wearing skinny jeans. Sitting in skinny jeans is bad enough, but stilling in a small airplane seat in skinny jeans is not a fun time. Next time I am going in track pants. I don’t care how homeless I may look.

2.    Take Entertainment
And I mean more than an ipad that you can’t connect to the internet and don’t realize until you’re on the plane that 99% of your aps and games need an internet connection to work. (books, playing cards, travel-size board games, magazines, movies, music, pen + paper etc)

3.    Prepare for Travel Sickness
Get some over the counter or doctor prescribed travel sickness/nausea tablets. I find sometimes these will help me and sometimes they wont, but when you feel dreadful they’re definitely worth a try! Some painkillers for headaches are also a good idea to have on you. (if your nausea comes with headaches like mine). Another thing that I find helps is something to chew on such as little lollies (sweets) or even chewing gum.

4.    Make Flying Seem as Normal as Possible
By this I mean make yourself comfortable so that you have everything you may need on you, as you would at home. Take a neck pillow, a relatively thin blanket, warm socks or a cozy jumper. Anything that you find comforting to make the small space you have your own.

5.    Bother Your Travelling Companion
If you have one, make your travelling companion play games with you. Stupid simple games you can play on paper that you probably played as kids. (MASH – predicting your future life, naughts and crosses, hang man, etc). Try to keep yourself distracted from how you’re feeling.

And those are my Five Tips for Flying. If worst comes to worst and you’re able to, I suggest sleeping. I personally cannot sleep on planes it is too uncomfortable and too weird of an environment for me. But considering at the end of this year (or very early next year) I will most likely be on a 20-hour flight to London I’m going to have to learn.

If you have any tips for me about flying (I’m always wanting more) or even any fun suggestions for things to do in London please let me know!

Halloween Make-up 2014 (Alice In Wonderland)

Guten Tag!

The other day I stumbled across my liquid latex, kind of smooshed to the back of my makeup drawer. Which made me go on the hunt for old Halloween photos from last year where I actually tried it out. Unfortunately there aren’t many of them and I also took them myself… on my phone... But hey, I tried.

Now, last year I left my costume to the day before (no surprises there) and went for a slightly not-so-creative-yet-still-fun-to-make attacked, bleeding Alice In Wonderland. Because let’s face it, who doesn’t love Alice In Wonderland?

I won’t lie, doing those cuts on my face took a long time but for a first attempt, I’m pretty proud of myself. Even if I did get impatient waiting for the latex to dry and ended up nearly blasting myself across the room from trying to dry my face with the hair-dryer.

As a side note you can always just put realistically sized gouges or scratches on your arms or legs to terrify your mother if you’re a lovely person like I am. Bonus fun points!

I think this year I want to plan ahead and go for a costume that will take a little more craftsmanship. Although just what that will be, I have no clue. All I know is I will definitely be making myself look as wounded as possible.

Perhaps a sad, wounded animal? People might feel sorry for me and feed me sausage rolls.
